Submittal
Documentation — product data, shop drawings, samples — submitted to the architect or engineer for approval before equipment is ordered or installed.
Submittals prove what is being installed matches what was specified, and they are a schedule item with real lead time. A rejected submittal on long-lead equipment can move a project by months, which is why they go in early rather than when installation approaches.
They also protect the installer. An approved submittal showing an accepted substitution is the record that ends the later argument about whether a product was authorised.
