IP Rating
Also called: ingress protection, IP66, IK10
A two-digit code for a device's resistance to solids and liquids — IP66 meaning dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets. IK ratings separately grade impact resistance.
Outdoor equipment in South Florida is chosen on this line of the datasheet. Driving rain, salt air, and pressure washing put more stress on an enclosure than the temperature range does, and a camera rated IP66 with a corrosion-resistant housing survives coastal mounting that an indoor-rated unit will not last a season in.
Ratings assume correct installation. A properly rated camera with an unsealed cable gland, or a conduit entry that lets condensation collect inside the housing, fails just like an unrated one — most 'water got in' failures are workmanship at the penetration, not the enclosure.
