Request to Exit
Also called: REX, REX sensor
A device — motion sensor, push bar, or button — that signals the access control system of a legitimate exit so leaving does not register as a forced door.
Without REX, every exit through a monitored door raises a door-forced alarm, and operators quickly learn to ignore the alarm queue. REX distinguishes normal egress from an actual breach, which is the only way door alarms stay meaningful.
REX placement and timing need tuning: a sensor with too wide a field releases the door when someone walks past inside, while too short a shunt time alarms on a slow-closing door. These are commissioning settings, adjusted per door after watching real traffic.
