Patch Panel
A rack-mounted termination point where permanent horizontal cabling lands, so devices connect via short, replaceable patch cords instead of directly to fixed cable.
Panels protect the expensive half of the system. Permanent runs get terminated once and never flexed again, while daily changes happen on cheap patch cords. Panel labelling is what makes the whole plant navigable, and it should match the outlet labels exactly.
Good panels are also the difference between a five-minute and a two-hour fault trace. When a port is documented to a room and a device, isolating a problem is a patch-cord swap; when it is not, it is a technician with a toner and an afternoon.
