Microsoft 365 Tenant
Also called: M365 tenant, Office 365 tenant
A single organisation's dedicated instance of Microsoft 365, containing its identities, mailboxes, SharePoint content, licences, and security policies.
The tenant is the boundary of your cloud environment: users, groups, conditional access, retention, and sharing rules all live inside it. Getting its foundations right — domain verification, naming conventions, licence mapping, admin role separation — is unglamorous and hard to retrofit once thousands of files and mailboxes depend on it.
Tenant work also shows up in AV projects. Room accounts, shared calendars, and device identities for Teams Rooms are tenant objects, which is why AV and IT need to be one conversation rather than two vendors pointing at each other.
