DSP
Also called: Digital Signal Processor, audio DSP
The processor that mixes, routes, and conditions every audio signal in a room — gating microphones, cancelling echo, and applying EQ and limiting before audio reaches the amplifier or far end.
A DSP is where a conference room stops sounding like a speakerphone. It handles automatic mixing so only active microphones are open, acoustic echo cancellation so the far end does not hear itself, noise reduction for HVAC rumble, and per-zone EQ so a room with glass on three walls stays intelligible. Without one, you are relying on whatever processing is baked into the camera bar — fine for a huddle room, inadequate past about twelve seats.
DSPs are configured, not installed. The hardware is a small fraction of the value; the tuning file — gate thresholds, gain structure, AEC reference routing, feedback ceilings — is what makes the room work, and it needs revisiting when furniture or headcount changes. Always get the DSP configuration file handed over as part of closeout, or the next integrator starts from zero.
