AES67
An interoperability standard that lets different audio-over-IP systems — Dante, Q-LAN, Ravenna, Livewire — exchange streams on a shared network.
AES67 is the common language, not a competing protocol. It defines clocking, packet timing, and stream discovery precisely enough that a Dante DSP can receive a stream from a Q-SYS core without a hardware bridge. On mixed-vendor jobs — a building where the paging system and the conference rooms came from different integrators — AES67 is usually what keeps you from ripping out one of them.
Expect reduced channel counts and stricter clocking when you cross platforms in AES67 mode, and expect to nominate a single grandmaster clock for the whole network. Plan the clock hierarchy before commissioning; retrofitting it into a live building means taking audio down floor by floor.
