Ceiling Tile Speaker
Also called: in-ceiling speaker, distributed ceiling speaker
A loudspeaker installed into a suspended ceiling grid, used in distributed arrays so coverage is even across a room instead of loud at the front and thin at the back.
Distributed ceiling speakers are specified by coverage overlap, not by count. Spacing follows ceiling height and the speaker's dispersion angle so that every seat sits within a consistent level window — typically within 3 dB across the space. Under-spacing them is the most common cause of a room where the back row cannot hear the far end while the front row finds it too loud.
In commercial ceilings, the tile assembly matters as much as the speaker: plenum-rated backcans are required by code in most air-handling plenums, and a backcan also stops sound leaking into the adjacent conference room. Skipping backcans is a cheap install that turns into a privacy complaint.
