Wi-Fi Site Survey
Also called: site survey, heat map, predictive survey
Measurement and modelling of wireless coverage, interference, and capacity in a specific building to determine access point count, placement, and channel plan.
Access point placement guessed from a floor plan fails in exactly the buildings that matter — concrete cores, foil-backed insulation, elevator banks, mirrored walls, and the tinted glass common in South Florida towers. A predictive survey models coverage before cabling; a post-install validation survey proves it, per band, with a client-grade adapter.
Modern surveys are capacity surveys as much as coverage surveys. A warehouse needs coverage; a 300-seat office needs enough radios that no single AP is serving eighty video calls. Both answers come from measurement, not from an AP-per-square-foot rule.
